Some of the following reasons will resonate with you more than others and some you can write off immediately. You might be surprised to find that some reasons for working toward a healthy lifestyle will become more prominent with you with the passing of time.
Look and feel better, dressed or not
Most everyone wants to look good. Whether it is on the beach, out on the weekend or just in your yoga pants. The feeling of knowing that you look good relaxes you and builds up your confidence. I’m not telling you that the world is your oyster because your butt fits perfectly in a pair of pants but it does bring an aura of self assured and a relaxed confidence that people find attractive. In short… you feel great in your own skin.
Have a stress free life
What happens when we're stressed?
- We may have a drink
- Pick a fight with your spouse
- Flip off at the driver in front of you
Many people gravitate towards something that will give instant gratification (doesn’t yelling at bad drivers certainly feels good in the moment?), but that isn't going to give us lasting stress relief. The best thing to do something physical, something that gets your mind and body out of that fight or flight stress response and bring those stress hormones under control. Doing physical activity makes your mind and body feel better. I’m not talk about
completing the activity to satisfaction.
Simple and successful are the best recipes for stress relief. You want stress relief, not a task to hang your hat on.
Going to your kickboxing or boot camp class removes you from the situation and forces you to focus on the exercise in front of you. Stress will literally melt away. I have seen it many times. Someone walks in and you can see the stress on their face and movements; 15 to 20 minutes later they are smiling as they wipe the sweat from their face. Not only have you improved your mood but the cortisol in your system has been replace with endorphins.
One exercise class and you are back on the right track and you feel great!
Be in a better mood
Exercise releases endorphins,
which makes you feel better and improves your mood.
Raise your quality of life
Once you have been exercising consistently for roughly 21 to 30 days the results of your efforts from living a healthy lifestyle begins to shine on you.
It is like sitting in the sun on a spring day after a long winter. You feel really good. You will sleep better, have more energy, feel more alert and much much more. The best part is that it only gets better the longer you stay with your new healthy lifestyle. Activities that you would not have thought of doing will begin to appeal to you.
A rising tide raises all ships
Once you begin to improve your health the rest of your life will follow as well.
Gain confidence in your abilities
Exercising regularly allows you to get used to using your body again… in a safe environment. Repetition builds confidence, with each successful class you are training your body to be able to do more and more.; and your mind to believe that you can do these things confidently.
Once you build confidence in your exercise class that confidence begins to carry over into the rest of your life. The confidence you gain in your strength can apply it toward daily tasks, favorite sports, house or yard work and the list can go on and on.
Extend your life expectancy
A healthy lifestyle doesn’t guarantee you a long life… but it does put the odds heavily in your favor. We can agree that this is a NOT the way the world typically works. I always thought it would be nice to have a way to calculate how many days we had left in our lifetime. You make good life choices… the days go up, poor health or life decisions and the days are subtracted. Like counting calories on your Fitbit. Unfortunately this will probably never happen so we must just. Healthy life choices will give you a longer and fuller life.
Be more energetic
Keeping your body active is the best way to stay alert and energetic.
